Berkshire Botanical Garden - Art Class

Plant and Place- Subject and Space.
Integrating a botanical still life foreground and background

Using a selection of potted plants from the Berkshire Botanical Garden’s greenhouse, we’ll be pulling it all together to create a cohesive connection between near and far, foreground and background, to create engaging compositions. We’ll examine ways to create the appearance of space and relationship using light and dark forms, repeated shapes and colors, shadows, soft and hard edges, and chromatic layering. The emphasis will be on experimentation, imagination, and play.
A materials list will include - colored pencils or a water-based medium of your personal preference (watercolors, acrylics or gouache) and a surface to paint on, a palette, a variety of brushes including a small mop brush and a fine pointed brush. Bring along any materials that you enjoy to working with.
Maximum of ten participants. There will be a short lunch break mid class. Coffee and Tea will be offered. Refrigerator and microwave are available.

Primavera wins the Fine Art Award at the juried show, Variations, at the Marblehead Art Association (MA) Feb. 2021

“…Primavera is a masterclass in ephemerality, so exquisitely rendered is the soft opalescence of the shell, the gauzy translucency of the drapery, the smoky atmosphere of the horizon. Yet there is also a compellingly physical side to the work. Unexpected areas of gritty impasto emerge from the rocky shoreline, grounding the viewer in Getsinger’s ethereal dreamscape.” —Cara Wolahan, MFA
